Day 73

Day 73 and a little bit about me

So I’ve talked about my joints previously and how they typically hurt. Losing so much weight has DEFINITELY helped but doesn’t take it away. I have always had back pain, they found scoliosis when I went for my freshman year physical in high school, and I also have arthritis in my lower back which is not fun. I’ve rolled my ankles more times than I could ever begin to count. They just give out whenever they feel like it. I had ankle reconstruction surgery on my left and while it helped tremendously, it still happens. I also had tarsal tunnel release surgery on both ankles because I couldn’t feel my feet all of the time and they thought it was one of the contributing factors to rolling my ankles so much. My knees are terrible and both shoulders are horrid. I started searching online about all of my body issues and started with blood work, hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s so inflammation was an obvious factor. Then I found something called EDS and lo and behold that’s me! It’s Elher’s Danlos Syndrome and it’s kind of rare. My form is hyper mobility and that’s why my body hates me! I also had genetic testing done and found I also have a gene mutation in the Marfan Syndrome category. At least I have the answers I had been searching for, it only took me 33 years and a new doctor who actually listened to me to see who I needed to see for it.

Moral of the story, keep pushing for answers if you feel like you need them. My body has always been difficult and has caused me a lot of pain over the years and while my answers don’t make it better, they do help to guide me. Chronic pain will always be a part of my life but there are ways that I can lessen that pain and it started with finding the right team to help me.

Day 73 and keep asking questions until you get the answers you’re needing.
