Day 148 and spontaneity is the spice of life.
One huge difference between my husband and I is that he does not have a single spontaneous bone in his body. His brain cannot fathom just doing something at the drop of a hat. Me, on the other hand, can just decide to do something and go do it. Admittedly that got me in more trouble when I was younger but you live and learn lol. When he and I got together it was a big adjustment for me. His brain was not able to make a shift, even a slight one, to my way of thinking so I had to adjust myself so he was more comfortable. I swear he was on the autism spectrum like our boys he just wasn’t diagnosed. That beautiful mind of his was great in some instances but such a hindrance in other area of his life.
Since he’s been gone I’ve been doing more spontaneous things with our boys. I think teaching them both ways, stability but also just doing something on a whim, is important. Our autistic kiddos definitely need it to help with their rigidity and so far they have embraced it. This past weekend I decided where I wanted to go and so we hopped in the van and off we went on a road trip. We went to the next state over and did a big drive thru Christmas light display. The boys loved it and it got us out of the house. The baby got to go to another state for the first time! The difference in our families responses was funny to me as well. My family was like that’s fun! How exciting! Send pictures! While his family was like where are you? When did you decide to do that? When will you be back?
Day 148 and it’s the best of both worlds I guess.
